Parks and Recreation Administrator Job Profile and Description

The job of a Parks and Recreation Administrator is basically to supervise the team of recreation workers whose responsibility is to maintain and operate leisure activities allowed in natural and amusement parks so they will have to organize and direct operators and concessionaires in amusement and leisure parks. They have to ensure the optimum enjoyment for the visiting public in the parks.

Parks and Recreation Administrator Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities which have to be fulfilled for the achieving goal:

  • He or she should be always aware about the safety of park and the visitors
  • He or she will have to maintain the coordination with local police, firefighters and 911 emergency crews in cases of social misdemeanors, accidents, and calamities occurring in the park.
  • The administrator should always try to increase the growth of park and do something new in it.
  • He or she should provide 3rd party instructors and coaches for any of the leisure sports such as kayaking, tennis, golf, swimming, fishing, bird watching, hunting, and horseback riding as allowed within the park’s premises.
  • He or she will have to be very sure about the safety of people so will have to maintain the coordination with amusement ride operators to check on safety and serviceability of their operations.
  • It is also the duty to be very sure about the health and safety of the people so will have to coordinate with food concessionaires to ensure that their food products conform to health and safety regulations of the state.
  • He or she will have also to think about the budgets so will have to develop and implement the approved park maintenance budget
  • He or she will also have to achieve their most cost-effective reach in providing electric power, water and sanitation facilities within the park which should be necessarily provided in the parks.

Parks and Recreation Administrator Skills and Specifications

The candidate should possess the following attributes to do the job which are as follows:

  • The candidate must be registered with the NRPA as a certified park and recreation professional which is necessary.
  • The candidate should be very able to communicate with everybody so should have excellent communication, interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills
  • As the job needs a lot of strength so the candidate must have the excellent physical and medical health required for the job.

Parks and Recreation Administrator Education and Qualifications

  • The candidate should have a BS degree from a college or program accredited by the NRPA is basic.
  • The candidate must have the 3-5 years of past working experience in park administration is an advantage for the candidate.
  • It will be an advantage for the candidate if he or she will have the knowledge and skill in any of the leisure sports supported by the park then he or she will be preferred for the job.

  • The annual median salary of a Parks and Recreation Administrator stood in 2008 at   $22,000 with the middles 50% earning between $19,000 and $28,000.
  • The lowest 10% earned slightly higher than $15,000 while the highest 10% earned almost $40,000.
  • It also depends up on the experience in the field, knowledge about the activities and the other qualification.
