·Agronomist Job Profile and Description

An Agronomist is a scientist who studies plants and soils and their main objective is to improve people’s approach the plants and they grow in. he or she applies the knowledge to strengthen the crop production techniques and soil management procedures. Agronomists may work in the laboratories or in the field.

·Duties and Responsibilities

An agronomist is a scientist so the job includes a number of duties and responsibilities and which are as follows:

  • The primary duty is to communicate the project and research for the better results to other professionals
  • He or she will have to demonstrate the impacts to the public through seminars and workshops.
  • It will be the duty to recommend the farmers, the best practices for soil conservation and plant growth and also to aware them.
  • It will be the duty to investigate how a soil type responds to a management technique
  • He or she will have to thereby implement based on the results upon the projects.
  • It will be needed to develop the newer methods of soil conservation to preserve soil.
  • He or she has to experiment for high yielding seeds, its disease resistance, adaptation to soils and nutritional value.
  • The basic duty is to investigate and study about the soil problem sources poor soil
  • He or she will have to experiment on water and determine the effects.
  • It will be needed to study soil characteristics and classifying it on the basis of geographic location, properties landscape position as it will require finding new ways.
  • He or she needs to develop improved techniques for measurement, soil sampling devices, and similar technology and any other works related to soil experimentation.
  • He or she needs to conduct also the experiments to investigate how soil develops, changes.
  • The duty includes finding out the impacts the land-based ecosystems and surrounding living habitat.
  • This will also includes identifying contaminated or degraded soils
  • He or she has to develop plans that improve their biological, chemical, and physical properties.

·Skills and Specifications

A lot of skills and specifications are needed to be an agronomist and they are as follows:

  • The candidate needs to know the scientific methods related to the work.
  • He or she should have the ability to read, write and understand work related documents as will have to work upon that.
  • He or she should have sharp reasoning and logical required skills which will be necessary to do the job.
  • The candidate should have the ability to identify the pros and cons of available solutions.
  • He or she will have to do the work of management so should be able to effectively manage his deadlines.
  • He should have the skills of communication both verbally and written and should  be able to effectively convey his message
  • The candidate should be a good listener and interpreter at the same time.
  • He or she needs to have good mathematical skills and good at numeric.

·Educational Qualifications

  • The candidate should at least have a degree related to genetics, plant physiology, biochemistry, soil fertility, entomology and other relevant disciplines is desired.
  •  A PhD is beneficial for the candidate.
