Irrigation Design Engineer Job Profile and Description

An irrigation systems designer is the one who design the irrigation systems either for huge farms or customized lawn care systems for homeowners. Basically he or she needs to involve the CAD (computer assisted drafting) in the final designing to get the best output. He or she works both indoors and outdoors for measuring, studying and evaluating the terrain and appropriately plans the type of sprinkler or irrigation methods to be used.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

An irrigation engineer has to do a lot of works and the duties and Responsibilities of an irrigation design engineer are as follows:

  • The most important duty of an irrigation engineer is to first of all understand, design and develop an irrigation system that will produce the best results for the area.
  • He or she has to improve water and soil conservation techniques which may include altering the terrain and should always try for that.
  • He or she has to do the work by reading topographical maps and interpreting aerial photographs into that perfectly.
  • It is also the major responsibility to educate and aware the consumers about different types of available irrigation systems to make their work easier.
  • He or she will have to tell the customers about the using techniques of drip systems and sprinklers.
  • He or she is also the one responsible to discuss the impact with the staff. Clients and consumers.
  • It will be also the responsibility to formulate and design cost analyzed information
  • He or she will have to tell the customers about the information referring to the different systems.
  • If he or she will have to work in a team then there may be dispute so it is the moral responsibility to troubleshoot issues that may arise during installation or use.
  • He or she will have to prepare the records and also to manage and maintain them.
  • He or she will also have to keep the records of the designs of all farmers in the concerned area perfectly and with transparency.
  • An irrigation engineer has to design and develop the systems so will have to different computer software and programs to chalk out the plans and procedures.
  • He or she will also have to detail the blueprints of the installation procedure and about the system.

Skills and Specifications

The candidate desiring to be an irrigation engineer should have the following skills and specifications which are as follows:

  • The candidate should have the basic knowledge of water requirements for flowerbeds, agricultural crops and lawns and needs to understand that.
  • He or she should be able to speaking, understanding and writing English
  • As it is the work to be done in the mostly rural areas so should be able to understand other local languages and it will be added as an advantage if able to speak also.
  • He or she should have good interpersonal skills and able to analyze the problems.
  •  He or she should have the ability to motivate the people as it will be needed in the work and should be able to motivate as well.
  • The candidate should be open to work in rural areas as it is the work related to the rural development.
  • He or she should be very comfortable dealing with statistical data perfectly.
  •  The candidate should be very well educated and qualified in the field of business mathematics.

Education and Qualifications

  • The candidate should be more than a master’s degree in Agriculture and related subjects.
  • As it is an engineering work so it is quite probable that the candidate should have suitable engineering degree which includes through knowledge of CAD applications.
