Equity Analyst Job Profile and Descriptions

The job of the Equity Analyst is highly specialized and will have to do a wide range of tasks. He or she has to use his financial expertise to do brief analysis on the particular companies, includes writing analysis report and calculating the financial ratios. The job also needs analysts to review and interpret balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements on traded domestic and global companies. The person requires working in coordination with other team members and must be willing to take guidance from them, if required.

Duties and Responsibilities

An equity analyst has to fulfill a number of duties and responsibilities and they are as follows:

  • The prime duty is to analyze the trading of particular companies on stock exchanges and writing frequently on the findings of the same.
  • He or she needs to maintain and prepare an extensive coverage list of companies
  • It will be needed to keep the records and tracks of all the developments on those companies.
  • Reviewing and interpreting cash flow statements, income statements, and balance
  • It will be the duty to oversee the accounts of the company such as balance sheets, cash flow statements on publicly traded domestic and foreign companies.
  • It will be needed to calculate the financial ratios and performing exchange rate calculations.
  • He or she has to do the work of making sell, buy, or hold suggestions
  • It will be needed to be in contact with the customers and the clients so will have to  visit the corporate headquarters,
  • The analyst has to get all the information about the company so will have to read the industry journals, newspapers, magazines, and online resources to cover the companies.

Skills and Specifications

The candidate desiring to do the job of an equity analyst should have the following skills and specifications with the required attributes:

  • The candidate needs to possess the excellent research and financial analysis skills as it is the most important requirement.
  • He or she should have a thorough and deep knowledge about the diverse business and global economic
  • The candidate should have very strong analytical, written and communications skills both verbally and written.
  • The candidate should be able to work against perpetual deadlines
  • He or she should be very proficient with computers and its advance technologies so will be able to work up on that.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree which is required for the field is a Bachelor’s degree in economics, international finance, financial management, or mathematics.
  • The degree of Master’s in business administration, financial management, or MBA will also be needed.
  • The candidate having some past Practical working Experience of 2-4 years in the same field is highly preferred.
