Bank clerk Job Profile and Description

A bank clerk or can be called as a teller works as a primary point of contact for bank customers. He or she has to take care of basic banking transactions. The duty includes answering financial queries and makes fundamental calculations and updates.

Duties and Responsibilities

A bank clerk has the number of duties and responsibilities to fulfill and they are as follows:

  • PRIMARY DUTY: The primary duty of  a bank clerk is to accept deposits and cashes checks from customers and makes the necessary updates in the system
  • CHECK WORK: He or she has to  pay cash to customers after validating the signatures on the check, draft etc and fund availability
  • ENSURE VALIDITY:  He or she has to ensure the validity and so needs to verify customer signatures and photo when handling withdrawals
  • PREPARE RECORDS: He or she has to record all the transactions by entering data into the bank’s computer system and maintain that
  • WORK BEHALF OF THE EMPLOYER: He or she has to accept loan payments on behalf of his employer’s lending department
  • CUSTOMER HELP: He or she has to help customers resolve any issue or the problem.
  • PROVIDE INFORMATION: He or she will be needed to give customers information about the bank’s products and services like credit cards, tax saving schemes, loan schemes etc, and has to promote them
  • BALANCE ACCURACY: He or she should always have to update the balance of his or her  money drawer is accurate and accounted for

Skills and Specifications

       The candidate needs to have the required skills and specifications to do the job which are as follows:

  • POLISH MANNERED: The candidate should be professional and have polished manners to do the job.
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: The candidate needs to have good interpersonal skills to interact with passengers cordially.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: He or she needs to possess very good math skills and must be fast but accurate when handling cash
  • HARD WORKING AND TROUBLE SHOOTER: the candidate should be able to work under pressure and long hours and must possess problem solving skills.

Education and Qualifications

  • BASIC DEGREE: the basic degree required for the job is that must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • The other requirement for the job is that the candidate should be good in mathematics, and know the basics of computers.
