Construction Manager Job profile and Description

A construction manager who is also known as a project manager is responsible for planning, co-ordination and control of a construction project from its inception to the time it is completed. He or she basically has to ensure that the client’s requirements regarding the functionality and standards are met properly. He or she needs to ensure that project is concluded successfully and deals with the delays that may happen in the construction site, emergencies or the bad weather that may occur. He or she is construction superintendents, program managers, general contractors or construction supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities

A construction manager has to manage and supervise all the functions and so it is very vast job and here are the following duties and responsibilities which a construction manager fulfills:

  • The main responsibility is to plan, direct and coordinate the construction project according to the factors.
  • He or she has to oversee the entire construction project or part of a project perfectly.
  • He or she needs to oversee the designs as well in the scheduling and coordinating during the construction process.
  • It will be the duty to hire the contractors as well in selecting, hiring, and overseeing the work and the workers with the supervisors.
  • He or she has to ensure that the project is completed within a specified time and determine the best source of construction materials.
  • He or she is responsible for scheduling and estimating the time required to complete the project
  • He or she has the duty to select the trade contractors and general contractors who are ideal for the completion of a project and then needs to supervise the work.
  • He or she has to determine the labor requirements and so as monitor the hiring and firing of construction workers.
  • The duty includes monitoring and directing the progress in the construction site such as delivery of materials, construction tools and equipment.
  • He or she has to ensure the utilization of the resources.
  • It will be needed to ensure the safety precautions are adhered to by the construction workers.
  • He or she has the responsibility to obtain the necessary licenses or permits.

Skills and specifications

The skills required in a person in a construction manager are as follows:

  • The person should be very attentive to detail work.
  • He or she needs to be an excellent communicator and should possess good skills both verbally and written.
  • He or she should have the ability to maintain the coordination so must have good coordination skills.

Education and Qualifications

The person needs to at least have a degree in Construction Management or Project Management to do the job of a construction manager.
