The construction supervisor has basically the duty of a professional who supposed to supervise and offer direction to people working in a construction site. There are a wide range of duties and responsibilities attached to it. He or she involve in the starting of deciding the site to the completion of the work.  The main responsibility is ensuring that the construction work is completed safely and in good time according to the budget. It will be the duty to communicate with a lot of people involved in the construction processes such surveyors, architects, estimators and engineers and especially to the public to gain the good will required during the construction.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are a number of duties and responsibilities which have to be fulfilled by a construction supervisor and they are as follows:

  • The prime responsibility is to ensure that the set standards are meeting perfectly on the construction site constantly.
  • It will be needed to verify the qualifications of the workers and provide them proper training if necessary.
  • He or she needs to provide direction to all contractors and supervise them when needed.
  • It will be needed to work on the designs as well so needs to plan, coordinate, recommend and implement the construction designs.
  • He or she needs to do the planning as well so has to formulate the construction as well as maintenance plan.
  • He or she has to maintain the coordination with the supervisors in the construction site in order to determine the working priorities.
  • It will be needed to negotiate with contracting companies to get sufficient equipment and personnel necessary to complete the construction work in good time.
  • He or she has the responsibility to prepare schedules and assign work to construction personnel nicely.
  • Ensuring that the construction work is completed in good time and that the set budget is adhered to
  • Focusing on safety and ensuring that all workers adhere to set safety standards
  • Determining work methods that result to improved efficiency and productivity in the work place
  • Supervising the economical completion of the project
  • Ensuring that the reports, records, timesheets, and invoices are approved by the construction authorities

There are the required skills and specifications in a person desiring to do the job of a construction supervisor as follows:

  • The person needs to have a level of expertise in the construction industry.
  • He or she should have the ability to manage the workers and issue clear directions to construction workers.
  • The person needs to have strong communication skills both verbally and written.

Education and Qualifications

High School Diploma

The person needs to have an Associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management to do the job of a construction supervisor.
