Contractor Job Profile and Description

A contractor is a person who works in the construction industry who is hired by an entity to provide them with labor and materials that are needed in the construction of a project under the guidance of a n agreement that is legally binding. The responsibility is to plan, develop and coordinate the project construction process. The duty is to oversee the project and ensures that it is successfully completed within the estimated time. He  or she needs to satisfy the board with his or her license and experience as well as successful completion of previous projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are a number of duties and responsibilities which have to be fulfilled by a contractor and they are as follows:

  • He or she has the prime responsibility to submit the tenders to entities for a possible contract.
  • He or she needs to understand the idea of the clients by interpreting the clients.
  • He or she needs to identify the requirement of the changes and give possible recommendations for the building plan.
  • It will be needed to first seek the approval for the construction from the local authorities.
  • He or she firstly ahs to draw an estimated budget for all the required materials and sourcing for them
  • He or she has to apply for the loans to purchase materials when needed.
  • The duty also includes performing the construction personally work if need be.
  • He or she needs to recruit and hire qualified subcontractors who will aid in the construction process.
  • The duty will be to monitor the work done by the craftsmen and the quality of the construction work.
  • It will be needed to advise the craftsmen accordingly and giving recommendations if needed.
  • He or she has to maintain the coordination with the entity and the craftsmen on issues of concern
  • He or she needs to get approval from consulting engineer for the materials.
  • He or she has to make sure that the project is completed within the stated time frame.
  • The duty include the work of documentation as well such as preparing account records for his subcontractors and ensuring that they receive their dues on time

Skills and Specifications

The skills and specification required in a person are as follows:

  • The person needs to be an excellent communicator and should have excellent communication skills.
  • He or she should be able to submit bids.
  • The person needs to have the ability to estimate the quotes fairly.
  • He or she should be able to manage and meet deadlines perfectly.

Education and Qualifications

The educational qualification required to do the job is only a High School Diploma
