Painter Job Profile and Description

Painter is the one who paints, renovates and refurbishes buildings and complexes or any other establishment. They can be self employed or recruited by builders for the painting of complexes and buildings. The person has to go through a training level for the job. This is usually an entry-level position. Individuals usually work under the guidance of a manager and they are a part of the maintenance department.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of a painter are as follows:

  • The painter firstly needs to determine the painting work required in the building by checking.
  • He or she has to decide the paint colors, combinations and textures suitable for the walls.
  • He or she has to mix colors and come up with new shades with the innovative ideas.
  • It will be the responsibility to scraping off old paint, removing nails and plastering through the walls.
  • He or she has to decide the number of paint coats by inspecting the walls.
  • It will be the responsibility to estimate the cost and the time for completing the work.
  • He or she has to complete all the assigned tasks by supervising authority in time.
  • It will be the duty to maintain the quality and standards of work.
  • He or she has to varnish and remove paint stains form furniture and doors.
  • It will be needed to make the appropriate use of paint brushes, thinner and other tools and equipment for the best result.

  • The person should have a creative knack to contrast and match paint colors to do the job of a painter.
  • He or she should have time management skills to complete all delegated work within the specified time.
  • The person should have team working skills to coordinate work functions with fellow workers.
  • He or she should have the ability to work on different surfaces and metals.

Education and Qualifications

  • The person should have done a High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • The person should have vocational training as a painter, with about 2 to 3 years of experience.
