A Plumber is basically a maintenance worker who works under a maintenance manager. A plumber is actually a very vital part of a maintenance team. He or she is accountable for the water pipe layout and systems of a building. The Individuals in this position are commonly given a job training to get familiarized with the pipe layout and systems of a facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

A plumber has to fulfill the following duties:

  • A plumber has to conduct the schedule maintenance and servicing of water pipes in a facility.
  • He or she has the duty to ensure the proper supply of water without and leakages by the regular inspection.
  • He or she has to correctly use all the plumbing apparatus and repair equipments perfectly.
  • He or she has to repair the equipment and tools and assembling, fitting, overhauling and repairing plumbing systems and fixtures in a facility.
  • He or she has to read the layout plans and the blueprints to plan and organize plumbing activities.
  • It will be the duty to report the supervising manager for the damages and other maintenance related issues.
  • He or she has to determine the type and size of pipes by inspection that will be required.
  • He or she needs to install the valves appropriately by assembling and installing valves etc.
  • It will be the duty to place orders for plumbing parts and other fixtures in the establishment.

Skills and Specifications

Here are the following skills and specifications required in a plumber:

  • The person should necessarily have the ability to read blueprints and layout plans.
  • He or she should have time management skills to effectively manage and complete all delegated work within the specified time.
  • The person should have team working skills and coordinating work with fellow workers.
  • The person should have required knowledge of appropriately using and handling plumbing tools and equipments.

Education and Qualifications

  • The person should have a High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • He or she should have got a Vocational training as a plumber, with about 2 to 3 years of experience.
