The Assistant Directors plays an equally important role in preparing a movie for they assist the directors in every step. The assistant directors are basically like the supporting pillars. They have to perform many jobs such as looking after day to day developments and the unexpected situations as well.  They need to organize, coordinate and arrange different sectors of film making efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of an assistant director which are expected to be fulfilled by him or her:

  • The assistant director has the prime duty to assist everyone associated with the process of making films.
  • He or she also has to assist a number of other members of the film like the actor, producer, technician, camera man etc.
  • He or she as to assist the director in managing the pre- production work.
  • He or she needs to assist the director in overseeing each and every scene of the film.
  • He or she needs to give the helpful suggestions to the director and can incorporate own ideas in to the movie.
  • He or she has to assist the director in overseeing the post production phase of the movie.
  • He or she needs to fulfill the other basic jobs such as looking after the timing, sound and structural factors of the film.
  • It will be needed to maintain the coordination with the members of the movie making team.
  • He or she is responsible for maintaining the cohesive feel of the film.

Skills and Specifications

The skills and specifications required in a person to do the job of an assistant director are as follows:

  • The person should be a very responsible individual to do the job.
  • He or she should be able to supervise a team of technical persons properly.
  • The person should have the ability to stay calm and composed while doing the job.
  • He or she needs to be very helpful to do the job and should be bale to put a keen eye for details.

Education and Qualifications

  • The person needs to have a Bachelor’s degree in filmmaking from an accredited school of filmmaking.
  • It will be added as an advantage for the person having at least five years of past working experience in this field.
