The Credit and Collection Director Works as a HOD, head of the department. He or she needs to work as a head of the credit processors who provide 30-60-90-day payment credit as a marketing practice or for its frequent and loyal customers. It will be also the responsibility to head the collectors who follow-up on the payments and needs to supervise a large team of workers to work in synergy with corporate directives and policies.

Credit and Collection Director Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following basic duties and responsibilities of a credit and collection director which she or he needs to fulfill:

  • The prime responsibility of a credit and collection manager is to implement corporate policies and directives in the management of credit and collection.
  • He or she also needs to be very sure that the policies and strategies promote the business by encouraging more sales.
  • It will be the responsibility to oversee the work of the credit and collection team to ensure they perform their duties and responsibilities properly by supervising them.
  • He or she needs to maintain the coordination with the HR in the hiring and firing of employees.
  • It will be the duty to provide regular updates to the executive staff on the growth of credits and collection and the rate of collection payments and other necessary information.
  • He or she needs to develop the departmental budgets properly based upon the resources.
  • The duty is to get the approval of the budget and ensure that expenses are made within approved budgets.
  • It will be needed to procure services of 3rd party collection agents when required.
  • He or she needs to perform the basic jobs such as approving recommended client application for 30-60-90 day credit sales.

Credit and Collection Director Skills and Specifications

The required skills and specifications of a credit and collection manager are as follows:

  • The person must have a good grasp of corporate accounting policies and automated ERP systems.
  • The other skills required for the job are excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • It will be needed to have interpersonal skills to deal with debtor clients.
  • He or she must have the strong organizational, leadership, supervisory and managerial skills to do the job.
  • He or she should necessarily have the multitasking abilities to perform the multi taking work.

Credit and Collection Director Education and Qualifications

  • The person needs to have a Master’s degree in accountancy or business management and a CPA which is a basic degree required for the job.
  • He or she should necessarily have the 10-12 years of past working experience in accounting or in managing credit and collection is preferred.
