There is always a separate section of maintaining security and safety in both the large companies and the institutions. The security director is basically the one who manages the department and oversee the process and functioning. The special department is designed in such a way that it is meant to protect the institution from any kind of criminal activity.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a security director:

  • The prime responsibility is to look after the security and safety department of the institution.
  • He or she has to ensure that any criminal activity does not hamper the smooth functioning of the institution.
  • It will be the responsibility to protect the property and personnel of both the customers and of the students.
  • He or she has to perform the jobs such as Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating members who would be a part of the department of safety and security.
  • It will be the duty to develop the crime prevention initiatives for safety quotient of the institution in proper order.
  • He or she has to oversee the logs and incidents that can lead to the failure of the exiting maintenance policies.
  • He or she has to maintain the coordination with the different members of the faculty of safety and security.
  • He or she is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the organization.

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

  • The person needs to have a very great organizational capability to do the job.
  • He or she should be excellent communicator and should have great communication skills.
  • The person should have excellent leadership qualities to be a good leader.
  • He or she should have analytical bent of mind and should have analyzing abilities.
  • The person should have team working skills and the ability to collaborate with others.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required for the job is a Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in police science, public security or in law enforcement from an accredited institution.
  • The other requirement is having at least five years of knowledge in the field is an added advantage.
