Fire Engineer Inspector Job Description and Profile

The Fire Engineer Inspector is the one who has the responsibility to respond to any emergency incidents. He or she has to drive all kinds of the fire apparatus to respond to the emergency incidents by utilizing and maintaining the pumping devices and tools that are found on the apparatus. He or she needs to perform the work under general direction. It will be also needed to take the responsibility of supervising the fire station in the absence of the fire captain and ten regularly do the inspection of the activities and tasks in commercial businesses and structures. There are also a number of other duties and related activities that are designed in the prevention and fighting of fires and he or she needs to perform.

Duties and responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a fire engineer inspector which have to be fulfilled:

  • The prime responsibility to respond quickly to fire as well as other emergency incidents properly.
  • He or she has to drive any type of fire apparatus of any type or size to a particular location.
  • The duty is to assist in maintaining and keeping the first station and surrounding areas.
  • He or she has to perform the supervision and inspection industrial, commercial, hospital, residential and school structures.
  • He or she ahs to work for the detection of the fire hazards and impose proper corrections.
  • It is needed to determine the compliance of the structure with regulations and ordinances on fire safety.
  • He or she has to investigate the occurrence of fires to determine the cause and origin.
  • It is needed to do the survey of all facilities on fire protection.
  • He or she has to inspect the locations where fire extinguishers are kept.
  • He or she has to do the work of documentation properly such as maintaining and keeping appropriate records.
  • He or she is responsible for preparing and maintaining the various reports of fire incident investigations.
  • It is also necessary to provide the training to the fire personnel in the area of  fire prevention methods and techniques.

The required skills and specifications for the job are as follows:

  • He or she should have the ability to drive heavy types of fire apparatus properly.
  • He or she should have the ability to respond to any emergency incident carefully.
  • He or she should have the ability to operate, utilize and maintain water pumping apparatus.
  • The person needs to have the ability to work as a head of the staff and train the unit properly when required.
  • The person needs to have the ability to amicably live and work in continued contact with other employees.
  • It is needed to conduct the investigations.
  • He or she has to perform the findings properly to create all types of reports as well as recommendations.
  • He or she needs to have the ability to speak effectively in a public setting.
  • The person should have the excellent interpersonal skills to establish effective and harmonious work relations with employees and staff.

Education and Qualifications

  • The person should possess a High School Diploma to do the job.
  • He or she should have two years of working experience as a fulltime firefighter.
  • He or she should possess a valid Fire Fighter Driver’s License (Class B-restricted).
