The Finance director is the one who has the responsibility to do the effective management of any financial risks in a company. Basically the financial director is a subordinate to the CEO so reports directly to them and sometimes directly to the board of directors in some companies. The director needs to do the planning of the finances in a company. The duty includes keeping the proper records and financial reports. He or she has to present them to the company’s higher management. The Finance director also needs to analyze financial data and advice. It will be also the responsibility to make recommendation to the management regarding the company’s financial situation.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a finance director which have to be fulfilled properly:

  • The finance director has to properly manage the accounting books in a timely manner.
  • He or she has to regulate, supervise and implement the accuracy in the accounting books.
  • It will be needed to implement the Implementing a financial audit on a continuous basis.
  • He or she has the responsibility to monitor the performance of the company regularly and properly.
  • He or she has to check the financial control systems constantly and monitor the income of the company against the expenses.
  • It is needed to monitor the level budget through checking the purchase of budgetary items.
  • He or she has to prepare the accurate, timely and regular financial statements and preparing the same to the board of directors.
  • He or she has to be very sure about the compliance of the audits.
  • It will be the responsibility to record the accounting requirements set by regulatory bodies in the capital markets within the company’s location.
  • He or she has to work for the preparation of the business plans and present that properly.
  • It will be the duty to present the investment memoranda, feasibility studies, financial plans, annual budgets and other financial or business documents to the board of directors.
  • He or she needs to warn and alert the Board of directors when required.
  • He or she has to inform about the financial irregularities, non-compliance, non-adherence and other financial concerns related to the company.
  • The financial director has to understand the financial systems properly along with the operations, plans, accounting, audits, and budget of a company.
  • He or she needs to be very sure that everything is done within budget and set deadlines.
  • The financial director has to maintain the collaboration of the activities with financial providers contracted by the company.
  • It will be needed to work with the auditors, underwriters, brokers, financial consultants, auditor’s and accountants with the coordination.

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

  • The person should have the ability to put a keen attention to the detail work.
  • He or she should have the basic knowledge in accounting and the principles.
  • He or she should have an analytical bent of mind and analytical skills.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required to do the job is a degree in Financial Accounting and Management to do the job.

·         It will be an added advantage for the person having a CPA or an MBA degree.
