The accounts receivable manager is the one who supposed to deal with the monitoring the disposing non profitable uncollectible accounts at the earliest possible timeframe. He or she works as a part of the asset or cash accounting team. He or she needs to oversee the accounts which are mostly from sales of goods with 30 to 90-day payment terms and are booked as sales receivables rather than cash sales. He or she needs to work as a supervisor for the collection in the case of the banks, sells or discounts uncollectible to collection agencies at a fraction of their booked values.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of an accounts receivable manager which have to be fulfilled:

  • The accounts receivable manager has the main duty to work as a supervisor of the team of collection officers.
  • He or she needs to monitor and track age of receivables by product line.
  • It is the responsibility to ensure that the collection notices are made at prescribed waypoints before and after the due dates.
  • It will be the duty to maintain the excellent business relations with the third party collection agencies.
  • It will be also the duty to recover the operational cost by selling the uncollectible accounts at discounted values to third party.
  • He or she is responsible for implementing the corporate policies in handling, collecting and disposing of accounts of receivable.
  • The duty also includes reviewing and overseeing the accounts to determine which can still be ages and which to discount to the collectors.

Skills and Specifications

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

  • The person must be very detail oriented, conscientious and systematic with a high level of accuracy to do the job.

  • He or she needs to have the excellent computer knowledge in excel word and power point
  • The person needs to have the team working skills with the interpersonal skills to establish and maintain the effective working relationships
  • The person needs to have the people management, verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers effectively.
  • He or she needs to have the exceptional negotiation and diplomatic skills when collecting due payments.
  • The person should have the strong organizational skills to do the effective management.
  • He or she should have the excellent problem solving and time management skills to do the job.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required to do the job is a college degree in accounting field is a minimum requirement while professional accreditation such as CPA is an added advantage.
  • The person needs to have the past 2-3 year of working experience in another company is an edge.
  • The person must have the required computer knowledge and literacy with spreadsheets and word processing.
  • He or she should be very familiar with automated accounting systems or ERP such as SAP/financials.
