Securities Analyst Job Profile and Description

The Securities analysts are the one who has the responsibility to explore the securities markets for evaluating the trends properly. They have to fulfill a very vital job and they are considered as the most vital source of information in the financial markets. He or she has to identify the high yielding securities to enable the company’s financial mangers. He or she has to oversee that the managers are maintaining profitable inventory of marketable securities.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a security analyst which have to be fulfilled:

  • The security analyst has to analyze the financial and investment information about companies, stocks, bonds.
  • He or she has to use the daily stock quotes, bond performance reports, market and economic forecasts, trading volumes, quarterly financial statements and other financial statements and publications.
  • It will be needed to regularly interact with the financial and investment planning managers to provide updates.
  • He or she has to consult with the people on investment landscape updates on select industries.
  • He or she has to provide the investment advice and recommendations to senior company officials, pension fund managers, securities agents and associates.
  • It will be the duty to maintain the coordination with the stock brokers and investment portfolio managers to secure the best yielding investment instruments.
  • He or she has the duty to call the stock brokers to sell or implement divestment decisions.
  • The security analyst will have to travel for the company and conduct the interviews with investors as well.

Skills and Specifications

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

  • The person must have the ability to work with an eye for financial detail.
  • He or she should be able to work with the computational accuracy for money market placements.
  • He or she should have the ability to comply with the deadlines and work under pressure.
  • The person needs to have the team working skills with the interpersonal skills to establish and maintain the effective working relationships.
  • He or she should be able to interact with brokers, banks, investment houses and government financial agencies.
  • The person should have a thorough and deep understanding of the dynamics of investments and risk management principles.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required to do the job is a college degree in a business or accounting field with a strong bias in Banking, Accountancy, Financial Management and Business Administration.
  • The person needs to have the past 2-3 year of working experience in investment firms; bourses and financing business.
  • He or she should have done a post graduate course in investment management which will be an added advantage.
