Tax Specialist/Manager Job Profile and Description

The tax specialist is basically employed in the companies in their accounting departments to advise the head comptroller or CFO on the payment options for minimizing tax exposures. The responsibility is to look out for the ways to minimize tax exposures on new businesses, non business assets, mergers and acquisitions and daily operations. It is needed to oversee the tax liabilities include applicable corporate or franchise income taxes, capital gains tax on sale of their business or divisions thereof, taxes of corporate estates, trusts and foundations and income tax shelters on compensation packages for executives.

Duties and Responsibilities

There are the following duties and responsibilities of a tax specialist which have to be fulfilled:

  • The tax specialist has the prime duty to identify the tax planning opportunities in any aspect of the enterprise by using his or her expertise.
  • He or she needs to prepare the correspondences and presentation materials properly.
  • He or she has to seek for the seeking approval or implementation of tax plans.
  • The tax specialist has the responsibility to maintain the coordination with the departments with assigned new projects or businesses.
  • It will be the duty to ensure the proper tax liability coverage.
  • The tax specialist has to do the effective management of the incorporation tax requirements for new ventures and business in the pre-operating stage.
  • It is the duty to do the research work for the legal issues, concerns, solutions and filing positions.
  • It is needed to make sure that the positions are in compliance with local, federal and international tax laws
  • It will be the duty to work as an assistant in the audit of all corporate tax payments.

The required skills and specifications are as follows:

  • The person must exhibit a critical discernment on corporate financial records on taxable operational and asset accounting.
  • He or she should have the ability to exercise the sound judgment and ability to turn opportunity into concrete value.
  • The person also needs to have the multitasking abilities with the strong project management skills to do the job.
  • The person needs to have the team working skills with the interpersonal skills to establish and maintain the effective working relationships.
  • He or she should have the ability to work for the long hours to set deadlines.
  • He or she should be able to lead the medium sized client engagements.
  • The person needs to have the required interest in the marketing and business development field.
  • He or she should be dedicated and motivated to achieve high standards of client service.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required to do the job is a college degree in accounting and a CPA certification or equivalent professional accountancy designation.
  • The person also has done a post-graduate course in business administration or management is an advantage.
