The Psychiatrist is the one who has the responsibility to diagnose and treat various patients on different health issues. He or she needs to do the evaluation for formulating the proper plans regarding treatment. The duty includes medication, prescription and psychiatric care to the patients properly.

Duties and responsibilities

There are a wide range of duties and responsibilities which are required to fulfill by a psychiatrist:

  • The Psychiatrist needs t0o participate in the diagnosis as well as in treatment of admitted patients.
  • It is necessary to complete the physical, neurological, and mental examinations of patients.
  • It will be the duty to treat the medical, psychiatric, neurological, and surgical problems of patients properly.
  • He or she ahs to consult with the patients, their families, attorneys, teachers, other medical professionals, and other attracted persons in interpreting clinical findings.
  • It is necessary to conduct the family and group therapy sessions as well.
  • It is necessary to prepare the proper reports for the law examiners, judges, government officials, physicians, school officials.
  • He or she needs to provide the professional witness evidence in administrative hearings and courts of law.
  • It will be the duty to direct burses, supporting staff, residents in care, and attendants in treatment of patients.
  • It will be the responsibility to attend and participate in the teaching and general staff conferences.
  • The person has the responsibility to receive the advanced training in psychiatry or neurology field.
  • He or she needs to do the researching work on the cognitive disorders to identify treatment methods.
  • It is also needed to deliver the speeches to professional groups regarding child guidance, mental hygiene, and other topics.

Skills and Specifications

The skills and specifications required to do the job are as follows:

  • The person needs to have the required ability to travel different places as needed.
  • The person should hive the excellent interpersonal, verbal as well as written skills.
  • He or she should have required knowledge of practices and principles of surgery, psychiatry, medicine, and neurology.
  • The person needs to have the knowledge of current practices and other theories in the metal health field.
  • He or she should have the adequate knowledge of the Knowledge of research techniques and methods and the ability to diagnose mental illness and treat them.
  • He or she needs to have the ability to deal efficiently with emotionally disturbed adults and children for prescribing appropriate medicines to treat psychological and physical disorders.
  • He or she needs to be able to interpret the health care treatment programs to medical professionals, relatives of patients, staff, and others properly.
  • The person needs to have the ability to prepare and maintain the diagnostic reports and reviewing them as well.
  • The person needs to be able to conduct family and group therapy sessions properly.
  • The person should have required knowledge of the preparation of reports, records, and related correspondence of work.
  • He or she should be able to maintain positive public relations with maintaining the coordination.
  • The person should have the ability to set the work priorities to other health care professionals.
  • The person should have the ability to work in a mental health facility or correctional facility for responding appropriately even in stressful situations.
  • It will be needed to have the superior communication skills both verbal and written.

Education and Qualifications

  • The basic degree required for  the job is a Bachelor’s degree in Doctor of Medicine from accredited medical school
  • The other requirement is having higher qualification in psychiatry from an accredited institution.
