Chef Job Profile and Description:

A chef prepares food for the guests at a restaurant, hotel or a cruise ship. A chef prepares food with great passion, like an art. He/she makes sure that the food not only tastes good, but also looks good. A chef has a complete team to help him/her prepare a dish or a whole menu.

Duties and Responsibilities

The job duties & responsibilities of a chef may differ according to the designation.

  • Preparing the menu with special and general dishes
  • Deciding the theme of a menu, and choosing the decoration, crockery, & accessories etc
  • Be completely involved in the food preparation process
  • Informing guests about the dishes
  • Managing the whole team and maintaining coordination
  • Be responsible for timely preparation of the dished under
  • Keeping the kitchen area clean
  • Ensuring the quality of the foods before serving to the guests
  • Liaising with the vendors
  • Ensuring that the supplies are available
  • Adding new recipes and coming up with new ideas

Skills and Specifications –

  • Must have a passion for food
  • Should be thoroughly knowledgeable about the ingredients and their combination
  • Should be creative and experimental with food
  • Good management skills and able to work under pressure
  • Should have thorough knowledge about the dish, the recipe & it’s history and tradition

Education and Qualifications –

It is required to have a culinary degree or hotel management degree
