The main responsibility of a head cook is to plan different menus for an establishment. They need to handle different things and coordinate their kitchen team. It involves assigning different tasks to the team. This is a very responsible position a head chef has the responsibility of building good image of an establishment.

Head cook duties and responsibilities –

  • Planning menu for the hotel, restaurant etc.
  • Planning the presentation details for different dishes
  • Adding new recipes
  • Handling stocks and inventory
  • Managing & training the kitchen staff
  • Finalizing estimation for the daily food requirement to make dishes accordingly
  • Handling the hygiene operations of the kitchen and storage area
  • Applying safety guidelines in the kitchen

  • Have knowledge about the nutrition in different foods, for making healthy & tasty food
  • Have knowledge about the food safety and health guidelines
  • Have excellent people skills
  • Fast enough to deliver food orders in time
  • Be calculative for maintain the record of kitchen expenses
  • Be analytical for assessing the requirements for food to plan supply accordingly
  • Have communication skills

 

Head cook education and qualifications –

  • An associate’s degree in hospitality and culinary art
  • A bachelor’s degree in hotel management and catering technology

The salary of a head cook depends on the work experience – it ranges from $39,000 and $50,000 annually.
