The job profile of a Hotel ‘Baggage Porter’ and ‘Bellhop’ carries the responsibility to make sure that the guests’ luggage is delivered to their rooms safely. The duties & responsibilities of these tow posts are the same, with this difference that a porter works outside the hotel, while the bellhop works inside the hotel.

Hotel baggage porter and bellhop duties and responsibilities –

  • Welcoming guests at the arrival at the hotel
  • Taking baggage of guests to their rooms safely
  • To ensure proper room facilities for guests
  • Forwarding guests’ requests to the concerned department(s)
  • Informing the bell captain &, following the responsibilities assigned to them
  • To make sure that the guests are s settled in a relaxed way in the rooms
  • Providing information about the city to guests, if they ask
  • Taking guests’ luggage to vehicles when needed
  • May be required to carry out odd jobs for guests, e.g. – dropping mails
  • Providing excellent customer service in a polite manner
  • May be asked to move furniture from one place to another in the hotel

 

Hotel baggage porter and bellhop skills and specifications –

  • Should be polite, and well-mannered
  • Good communication skills
  • Be physically fit to lift heavy baggage
  • Be able to provide guests with local tourist destination information
  • Excellent customer service skills

Hotel baggage porter and bellhop education and qualification –

There is not pre-set qualification criteria for these two position, however having passed a high school diploma is good for getting a job.

 

Hotel baggage porter and bellhop salary –

The salary range for these two positions is from $8 to $12 per hour, plus tips from guests
