Labor Relations Officer/ Specialist Job Profile and Description

The Labor Relations Officer deals with ensuring that corporate employment polices and procedures, compensation, labor security, and termination as well as working conditions in terms of health and safety in the workplace and other labor related matters do not violate state and federal laws, but also promote healthy and mutually rewarding labor-management relations. The officer handles employment contract management, employment termination releases, disciplinary actions for employees and management staff recommended for disciplinary action to ensure the process conforms to legal statutes. In addition, the function assists higher management in any labor disputes and collective bargaining negotiations

Labor Relations Officer/Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist the labor relations head in formulating the guidelines code of discipline for employer-employee relationship.
  2. Assist the Labor Relations Director in developing the contracts for employment at all levels.
  3. Implement and administer the Code of Discipline.
  4. Handle all cases of employee grievances, office harassment complaints and disciplinary actions before they develop into full-blown court actions.
  5. Conduct conference across departments to explain the code of discipline, either during orientation of new hires or during revisions.
  6. Coordinate with Security department to ensure that terminated or resigned employees are processed to retrieve company-assigned materials like vehicles, mobile phones, laptops, keys to lockers, gyms, executive offices, rooms, etc.
  7. Coordinate with the Legal department in any labor disputes and appear in court on behalf of the company as required.

Labor Relations Officer/Specialist Skills and Specifications

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills to deal with employees across all levels and departments.
  3. Has thorough knowledge of the state’s legal mandates on labor laws and company policies.

Labor Relations Officer/Specialist Education and Qualifications

A post secondary degree as a legal aid or paralegal course or a 2-4 bachelor’s degree in social sciences and industrial psychology is basic. A 2-year specialized experience in corporate HR function is an added advantage.

The annual salary for non-managerial HR professionals in the legal labor areas averages $60,000 to $90,000 and would also based on knowledge, experience, training, company size, industry and state location.
