Insurance Claims Clerk Job Profile and Description

An insurance claims clerks collects information from the insurer and tells it to the insurance carrier company to settle down the claims. He calculates the amount of claim, finds out if any information is absent. He has to give support or help the customers in filling up the insurance claim forms and other documents so as to make sure that everything is complete and he can file the claim.

Duties and Responsibilities

He has to perform many duties. Some of them are:-

  • Attach more and more information to the claim file.
  • Finds out if some relevant information is missing.
  • He calculates the amount of claim that is to be paid to the insurer.
  • Provide customer service to prepare the forms and other documents so that the claim file is complete.
  • Works with computers to enter the records for entering, accessing, searching and retrieving data.
  • Pay small claims as early as possible.
  • Transfer claim files either for payment or for more information.
  • See the insurance policy to decide upon what is covered and what is not.

Skills and Specifications

  • He should have a good personality so that he can deal with the people.
  • He should have leadership qualities so that he is able to resolve the disputes, complaints and conflicts and should have the quality of negotiating.
  • Should have good communication skills.
  • He should have good decision making capabilities and should have good communication skills as he is the one who will represent the company before the public.
  • He should be well verse with all the terms and rules and regulations of insurance policies.

Education and Qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent certificate is the requirements for becoming an insurance claims clerk. A person with an in-depth knowledge about the insurance policies is given an extra edge over others. He should also be well qualified and experienced.
