Child Support Lawyer Job Description and Profile

The job profile of a ‘Child Support Lawyer’ requires a person to perform different tasks related to child support, parenthood etc. A child support lawyer is mainly responsible for child support cases filed with the ‘Department of the Child Support Services’.

They receive orientation and the required skills for child support and parenthood.

Duties and Specifications –

  • To provide counsel to staff of the department, parents (either custodial or non-custodial) and also the witnesses in legal issues involved in paternity and support actions.
  • To understand and execute child support laws, court judgments, and local and federal regulations and other legal rules and regulations to be used in preparing for child support cases.
  • Organizing legal pleadings like answers, complaints, motions, findings, judgments and orders related to trials, hearings and different legal proceedings
  • To make and prepare all reports and communications for maintaining case records accurately
  • Take proceedings of all incoming support and paternity on trials in court and at motion hearings about family law.

Duties and Specifications –

  • Be able to learn all criminal and civil codes and, regulations related to family law.
  • Be able to conduct all legal research.
  • Be able to assess and execute different legal principles, proofs, facts and guides to legal problems of family.
  • Should know how to present all fact statements, arguments and law in a clear, powerful and reasonable manner, in both verbal and written format.
  • Be able to discuss all kinds of family settlements.
  • To make sure that full privacy and neutrality is \maintained.
  • To manage any assigned caseload.
  • Have knowledge about basic computers and different computer applications used by the department.
  • Be able to form and maintain work relationships with all the people that are a part of the course of work.

Education and Qualifications –

  • A Juris Doctor Degree.
  • They must be an active member of the Bar of their State.
