Code Enforcement Officer Job Profile and Description

A Code Enforcement Officer is mainly responsible to manage the ‘Code Enforcement Unit’ to monitor particular cases. They are required to organize joint code enforcement actions in coordination with various City agencies and divisions.

Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Establishing and keeping a screening system all over the town to handle code enforcement cases
  • Inspecting reported violations of municipal resolutions, regulations, and codes
  • Follow enforcement and voluntary fulfillment directly, if situations demand so
  • Performing field inspections, keeping case files and acquire evidences in support of code enforcement cases.
  • They may be required to get involved in organizing and presenting different kinds of information for the City Council, Planning Commission, and Administrative Hearing Board, etc.
  • Present the goals and objectives of the Code Enforcement Program to the civic groups
  • Planning, allocating, prioritizing, evaluating and supervising the staff work that report to him/her
  • Reporting the staff activities to their immediate supervisors with suggestions for improving operations.

Skills and Specifications –

  • Excellent organizational and management skills
  • Should have the ability to understand laws, regulations, and ordinances dealing with the enforcement duties.
  • Should have excellent customer servicing skills
  • Should be able to prepare presentations for groups.

Education and Qualifications –

A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning and other related areas is required to apply for a ‘Code Enforcement Officer’ position. Having additional training in public speaking, writing and fields that relate to ‘Code Enforcement’ helps for a job.
