The job profile of a ‘Law Clerk’ involves providing assistance to judges or lawyers by conducting legal study, and preparing legal files or documents. A clerk has to provide assistance for all kinds of legal and secretarial matters to the Legal Services staff. They are required to produce draft opinions required as the basis for the work of attorney or judges. A law clerk provides general assistance in courtroom.

Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Studying legal documents to conclude causes of action, law of cases and facts, and arranging cases.
  • Screening petitions, motions and complaints for concluding the legal merit of the litigants.
  • Preparing affidavits of documents, keeping records of case correspondence and document files.
  • Advising judge on the priority requirements and position of allocated cases.
  • Researching law sources for drafting briefs for approval, assess, and advance use by attorney.
  • Keeping liaison between officials, attorneys, and litigants.
  • Assessing current procedures for concluding procedure that is more efficient.
  • Assessing and filing petitions, pleadings, and other legal documents relevant to court actions.
  • Setting up courtroom, recording equipments, and recording court events.
  • Arranging closing statements of real estate and helping in closing procedure.
  • Delivering subpoenas to the concerned parties and witnesses to action.
  • Maintaining information storage & retrieval services that include legal search facilities and library.
  • Storing, listing, and keeping cash of legal volumes.
  • Communicating and deciding disagreement between different parties.
  • Assisting in the translation of legal documents.

Skills and Responsibilities –

  • Good knowledge of rules and procedures of court
  • Good Knowledge of secretarial procedures.
  • Should have good communication and customer service skills
  • Be able to learn things in a quick manner

Education and Qualifications –

  • A High school diploma with clerical experience.
