Litigation Support Specialist Job Description and Profile

The job profile of a ‘Litigation Support Specialist’ involves providing support to legal professionals. They need to consult lawyers and people to provide technical support for legal litigation. They have sufficient legal expertise to understand the different litigation processes, evidence rules and court proceedings to use the technology in order to support trial groups in an efficient and successful manner.

Litigation support specialists use ‘litigation support software’ for gathering the required information. They locate, scan and upload the required legal documents for the references of lawyers.

Duties and Specifications –

  • Gathering knowledge about the current automation technology on legal applications like –   coding and document imaging, database management, optical character recognition, and design, particular litigation support application and, multimedia presentation software.
  • Printing legal information and making CD’s and DVDs of the same.
  • Provides technical support to lawyers and litigating staff in courtroom trials through software, databases and transcripts, and documents etc.
  • Troubleshooting technical problems and resolving current issues throughout the trials, hearings, arbitrations and proceedings.
  • Providing training to other litigation staff.

Skills and Specifications –

  • Must be able to determine technological requirements of lawyers and other related people
  • Assessing possible solutions and using technology to meet the requirements of litigation
  • Must examine and resolve litigation problems through litigation software.
  • Instruct litigation staff for using litigation computer software
  • Must establish and maintain superior relations with lawyers and other legal staff.
  • Must be able to communicate well
  • Must be well organized and know how to prioritize important tasks.
  • Must complete work on time.

Education and Qualifications –

  • An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in paralegals with two years of relevant paralegal work experience in a legal environment is required.
