Bookbinder Job Profile and Description

A Bookbinder performs tasks related to binding of books, magazines brochures etc-etc. They bind printed sheets into books, manuals, brochures, journals, magazines, and enveloping them with hard covers. A bookbinder mainly works with automated machines, but they also have to perform various manual tasks related to binding job.

This job requires good observation of shape and size for cutting and altering pages into specified proportions as per the instructions of customers.

Bookbinder Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Putting sheets together for binding purpose
  • Applying paste on the covers for pasting sheets on them
  • Trimming and cutting pages as per the specific shape
  • Repairing and rebinding damaged books
  • Carving out designs for fabric, leather covers, and lettering patterns
  • Punching papers for attachment, stitching books sideways
  • Creating soft covers & paperbacks
  • Casing books with cloth, foil, or paper
  • Reforming card board pieces for hardcover binding

Bookbinder Skills and Specifications –

  • Should have mechanical skills and agility in hands for working with a large number of sheets
  • Excellent knowledge about the bookbinding machines
  • Should have an eye for detail, and good organizing skills
  • Good coordination abilities
  • Should know how to watch costs, expenses, machines and others’ performances
  • Good resource management skills for reducing costs and ensure good productivity & profitability
  • Should be able to focus on using the machine controls
