Industrial/Organizational Psychologist Job Profile and Description

Industrial/Organizational Psychologists apply psychology principles to research on methods in improving the quality of work life in an organization or enterprise to achieve a healthy and productive balance between home and work. They often collaborate with HR staff in screening, training and counseling job applicants and workers as well as ensuring that the organization is properly structured to be conducive to productive and harmonious social relationships. They work with management in any organizational restructuring and are often hired as management consultants to address business problems suspected of having social, attitudinal or behavioral roots.

Industrial/Organizational Psychologist Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct behavioral research in the workplace
  • Conduct group behavior enhancement workshops and therapies
  • Conduct out of town leadership and bonding seminars for management and staff.
  • Work with HR in developing the tools for screening and interviewing job applicants to ascertain healthy work and positive mental attitudes and dispositions.
  • Work with HR is developing methods in counseling and training employees
  • Perform organizational development (OD) research and recommend organizational and management restructuring based on findings.
  • Work with operations management in developing programs for worker productivity enhancement.

Industrial/Organizational Psychologist Job Skills and Specifications

  • Should have high analytical, deductive and reasoning skills
  • Should have high emotional stability and maturity as well as compassion and sensitivity
  • Should have excellent communication skills
  • Should have excellent interpersonal and people management skills

Industrial/Organizational Psychologist Job Education and Qualifications

  • A PhD in Psychology (Psy.D.) is essential for corporate work.
  • A state license or passing the American Board of Professional psychology (ABPP) is an advantage
