Library Technicians Job Profile and Description

With an increasing complexity in handling stored resources, the Library Technician provides assistance to librarians in handling the library resources and help readers for the use of library catalogue, indexes, and databases to find books. They are also involved in library collections, replacing damaged books, keeping record of visitors & books borrowed etc-etc.

Library Technicians Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist library people, teachers and students find and use library resources that include reference components, computer database, and microfiche facilities.
  • Process new print and non-print components for addition in library collections.
  • Reserve, circulate, stock up, and discharge books and other materials
  • Catalogue and identify print and non-print recourses in accordance with library procedures.
  • Organize, sort and maintain publications and magazines.
  • Provide first level tech support team in trouble shooting and setting up computers, operating and changing photocopiers, printers, fax machines, and audiovisual equipments.
  • Deliver and recover items throughout the library by hand or using pushcart.
  • Mentor new staff or student assistants, and oversee their dutites

Library Technicians Skills and Specifications

  • Has great managerial abilities
  • Good at managing library record system
  • Has good interaction abilities to help readers

Library Technicians Education and Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is basic, however post secondary education is preferred by many institutes.

Library Technicians Salary –

The average salary for this position is $13.86 per hour.
