Market Research Job Profile and Description

A market researcher is an individual who collects information about the competition and clients of the organization he is working for so that policies can be framed for improving sales of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • A market researcher has to prepare questionnaires for general and one – on – one clients of the organization he works for.
  • He has to find out the level of client satisfaction and product feedback about his organization.
  • He has to involve himself in finding out the causes of consumer termination.
  • He has to do market research on pricing and advertising.
  • He has to involve other staff of the organization in the research work and oversee their activities.
  • After the research is done, he has to analyze the data and write reports highlighting his findings.
  • He has to present these reports to the senior management of the organization.
  • He has to attend meetings with the business development, marketing and advertising teams of the organization and participate in discussions regarding what products to sell, at what price and where.
  • He has to coordinate with the other departments of the organization constantly in finding out what kind of research each need in order to garner better profits.

Skills and Specifications

  • A market researcher needs to possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to be successful in this profession.
  • He has to possess very high interpersonal skills as well as it is his job to deal with existing and future clients of the organization and learn about their preferences.
  • He should possess very good analytical skills as he needs to analyze all the data and make it suitable for use by different departments of the organization.
  • Strong quantitative skills are also required.

Education and Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement for being a market researcher. A Master’s degree is highly preferred. Any additional degree in marketing or research would also prove to be helpful and give great opportunities.
