Retail Stocker Job Profile and Description

A Retail Stocker, also referred to as a stock clerk is accountable for executing functions relating to receiving inventory and storing the same in facilities such as warehouses and storerooms. An individual of this job is also required to carry out other functions relating to the organization of inventory in retail and departmental outlets. This is an entry-level position wherein the person works under the supervision of a manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receiving and appropriately storing store inventory.
  • Verifying the received stock with the purchase order.
  • Authenticating that the quality of the goods received comply with the standards of the organization.
  • Reporting loss and damage of inventory to the supervising manager.
  • Appropriately storing perishable goods.
  • Ensuring proper handling and stocking of the goods.
  • Assisting in organizing goods on the sales floor.
  • Ensuring the proper labeling and tagging of the goods.
  • Coordinating work with team members and other departments of the store.
  • Maintaining inventory records and counting cycle of the stored inventory.
  • Completing all the assigned tasks and targets within the stipulated time.
  • Following standard operating procedures of the organization.

Skills and Specifications

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, meet targets and work in a team.
  • Should have the basic knowledge of using a PC for maintaining inventory records.
  • Must be physically fit and healthy.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school degree, diploma, or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college is imperative.
  • Experience of 2-3 years in a warehouse or a retail store gives an added advantage.
