Social Service Casework Supervisor Job Profile and Description

Social Service Casework Supervisors are accountable to direct, supervise, and review the activities and work of a group of caseworkers. They also support the staff in areas, such as child protection, substitute care, adoption, and adult protection. Casework supervisor analyzes customer requirements, evaluates diagnoses, interventions, resources arranged, reviews service objectives, assess customer progress, and recommends new actions. Under general supervision of Director of social services, the supervisor makes final decisions and approvals concerning to casework treatment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conferring with and counseling social workers regarding program and casework problems.
  • Counseling customers in groups or individually on experimental or planned basis.
  • Reviewing and comparing productivity or work performance of subordinate employees with established standards.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of administrative policy.
  • Training new employees in fields, such as division procedures, agency policy, and government or agency regulations.
  • Coordinating activities between service and unit providers.
  • Proposing recommendations for changes in program and establishing unit policies, objectives, and procedures.
  • Assisting staff members through group and individual conferences in examining case troubles and in making better their helping and diagnostic skills.
  • Providing in-service training for the experienced social workers in areas like new policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Reviewing case records and evaluating the performance of social workers and recommends indicated action.

Education and Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or any related field from an accredited institution is essential.
  • Few years of Experience in social services casework related activities gives an added advantage.
