Veterinary Technician (Licensed) Job Description and Profile

Under basic direction, the job of a Veterinary Technician (Licensed) is to provide day-to-day paramedical treatment to animals. They suitably positions and disposes of animals as well as maintains kennels in clean conditions. The Licensed Veterinary Specialist manages records of procedures and therapy and, also performs related tasks.

Duties and Specifications

  • Executes examinations of animals and keeps and records results – breed and age
  • Assess pets’ health and decide about the animals to prioritize for healthcare.
  • Recommends additional medical evaluations like skin scraping and x-ray.
  • Obtains records on animals’ health status as well as performs follow ups with laboratory and medical tests.
  • Give therapy to animals and medicate them under veterinarian’s oversight. Monitors health and wellness of quarantined animals.
  • Records vaccinations animals and other medications and treatments on paper and computer
  • Purchases and keeps inventory of medical materials, moderated materials and many other kinds of medicines,
  • Helps animal doctors or veterinarians with examinations.
  • Restrains animals during examination sessions.
  • Observes carefully the health of animals and present report to the doctors or vets.

Skills and Specifications

  • Ability to adequately manage pets and animals in a kind manner
  • Should know how to carry out euthanasia to animals with injections
  • Have the ability to understand rabies symptoms as well as manifestations and also that of additional diseases in animals.
  • Should be able to maintain proper treatment documents
  • Should be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Have the ability to carry out bending, stooping and carrying.
  • Be able to make right judgments.
  • Keep good and effective work relationships with volunteers, staff, vets and clients.

Education and Qualifications

  • Registered as a State Veterinary Technician.
  • Has a valid State driver’s license (Class C).
