Broker trainee Job Profile and Description

A trainee broker learns how to give advice to his customers on making sound and profitable investment decisions. The financial market is an ever-changing, fast-moving field, and one needs to be knowledgeable about the latest developments in the world of finance to be able to predict trends which would lead to better returns. The trainee works under an experienced stockbroker and there may be many tasks delegated to him that may help run the business. He works as part of a team, which would also include investment analysts.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • A trainee broker can work for an individual or a company — large and small.
  • He has to look out for new business and bring that to his company by opening new customer accounts
  • He will also be responsible for marketing services through mails and events and eventually will be entrusted with handling them by himself
  • Research is very important in this field. The trainee has to research daily into the financial market to keep yourself updated on the latest news and changes
  • Other duties would include making and receiving phone calls, letters, mails and paper work, attending meetings, handling general account etc

Skills and Specifications

  • This is a highly stressful job and requires one to be on his toes all the time. So a trainee broker should know how to deal with stress and should be able to work in a high-pressure work environment
  • Long hours are also common, so he should be resilient, persistent and take quick decisions
  • He should be very good with numbers and have good IT skills too
  • He should be able to understand and analyze complex information

Education and Qualifications

There are no specific courses for stock broking, but candidates are expected to have at least a degree in economics with specialization in finance, accountancy etc.
