The agricultural assistant is basically the one who needs to assist the senior agriculture engineer or can be other seniors in implementing better irrigation and farming techniques in the concerned region.  The duty includes a lot of works such as to educate and aware the farmers about the techniques and the systems. He or she actually plays an important role in educating and motivating the locals (farmers) about the modern and better facilities available to them.

·          Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of an agriculture assistant include a lot of works and they are as follows:

  • It will be the main duty to work for the development of the rural areas and to aware the farmers and the rural people.
  • He or she will have to focus up on specifically the agricultural projects perfectly.
  • He or she has to maintain the coordination with the team members in rural development projects
  • He or she has to train the farmers’ modern and more proven methods and procedures and will have to coordinate with them.
  • He or she will also have to use the motivating skills to come out of the traditional way (if applicable).
  • He or she will have to train the farmers about the high yielding variety of seeds, the fertilizers available to make the work easier.
  • It will be the duty to aware the farmers about the use of appropriate insecticides and pesticides and the irrigation technologies that may be of benefit.
  • He or she will have to try to develop know-how among the farmers about the terms and conditions of the various loan facilities to help them.
  • He or she will have to educate and aware the farmers about the government policies regarding agriculture and farmers.
  • In a big way we can say that an agriculture Assistant has to promote quality agriculture among the farmers and the rural people.

·          Skills and Specifications

The candidate desiring for the job should have the skills and specifications to do the work perfectly which are as follows:

  • KNOWLEDEGE OF ENGLISH: The candidate should be able to speak and be very comfortable in English and should be able to read, write and speak in the regional language as it is the work related to the regional base.
  • SKILLS: The candidate needs to possess good interpersonal skills so will be able to analyze the information.
  • MOTIVATION SKILLS: He or she should have the knowledge of motivating people and will have to be a good motivator.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: He or she should have good understanding of the banking mathematics (accounts and finance) to be able to make it clear to the farmers.
  • ANALYTICAL SKILLS: the candidate needs to have the very good leadership and analytical skills.
  • OPEN WITH THE RURAL AREAS: the candidate needs to be open to work in rural areas which may be uncomfortable.
  • PERSONALITY QUALITIES: The candidate should be able to follow deadlines and handle pressure. He or she should have a polite and understanding approach.

·          Education and Qualifications

  • Agriculture assistant should have a graduation or a post graduation degree from an accredited university in a related subject (agriculture, horticulture, etc).
  •  He or she should have a certain experience of the job or should have undergone equivalent training so it will be added as an advantage.
