A Server in a hotel or restaurant serves food and drinks to guests. He/she has to take orders from guests and make sure that an order is delivered in time. They have to provide excellent customer service. They should be polite and put guests at ease.

Sample server duties and responsibilities –

  • Greeting and welcoming guests
  • Assisting guests find tables and feel relaxed
  • Providing menu and taking food and drink orders
  • Serving orders on the tables in time & clearing crockery once guests finished eating
  • Suggesting dishes and providing information about food items, if guests ask
  • Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in restaurant
  • Being always alert and attentive to guests requests
  • Giving bills to guests and handing over the payment to cashier

A server can earn from $9 to $14 per hour, plus tips from guests. The yearly income for servers is from $18,000 and 28,000
