Public Defender Investigator Job Profile and Description

A ‘Public Defender Investigator’ performs investigations in criminal cases. They have to perform various duties – providing defense to the clients and handling various related matters. In a criminal trial, a prosecutor stands fights on behalf of the government and the public defender represents the accused. They need to obtain police reports about the crime of the accused and performing investigation about allegations.


Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Performing investigations about allegations
  • Collecting date and gather evidences, and presenting defense in court
  • Interrogating the eyewitnesses, criminals and alleged persons.
  • Conducting research and assessing the case.
  • Scrutinizing the place where crime happens and taking photographs
  • Manage the case related documents
  • Assisting the prosecutors in forming strategy for the trials.
  • Appealing after conviction
  • Maintain good relations with all the people concerned with the public defender’s office

  • Should be ready to face challenges.

Education and Qualifications –

It requires a Masters degree in law, and having sociology or psychology degree is an advantage.
