Those automated teller machine (ATMs) we see in kiosks and strategic locations around the city from which we withdraw our deposit cash from have been installed and are routinely maintained by ATM Technicians. These ATMs are basically a mix of PCs and robotic hardware that dispenses cash. When ATMs malfunction, the central network operators can recognize the problem or alerted to by clients and dispatch these technicians. Field ATM Technicians perform routine maintenance regularly, replacing worn parts and performing diagnostic tests to ensure the ATMS operate in top condition. Unserviceable ATM components are replaced and taken to a repair shop.

Automated Teller Machine Technicians Duties and Responsibilities

  • Travel to ATM sites to provide routine and emergency service as required.
  • Perform troubleshooting with standard diagnostic software tools on the laptop to isolate problem if hardware or software caused.
  • Reinstall software programs or adjust configuration settings.
  • Change and replace hardware components and bring to shop for repair as required.
  • Test ATM after fix to ensure that they are function as specified.
  • Operate machines in order to test functioning of parts and mechanisms.
  • Maintain and update records of ATM equipment maintenance work and provide updated repair stickers on ATM machines to indicate their latest repair and nature of repair.

Automated Teller Machine Technicians Skills and Specifications

  • Should have excellent understanding of electronics, computer and automation technologies
  • Should have high analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Can work long hours and operate under a deadline or work after shift in a 24 hour robotic operation

Automated Teller Machine Technicians Education and Qualifications

  • An associate or certificated post secondary course in electronics or computers is basic while an equivalent previous experience in electronic repair and troubleshooting of PCs and ATMs is a beneficial.
  • A certification from any technical certifying body such as the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians is an advantage.
