Forensic Investigation Manager Job Profile and Description

Forensic Investigation Manager’s job necessitates supervising directly or indirectly the Forensic department in the engaged operations like processing of evidence gained at crime scenes, identification of criminal offenders and so on for law enforcement agencies. The Forensic Investigator manager performs extreme level of professional work that entails the application of criminality techniques and methodologies, and forensic science.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing and supervising Forensic Unit and coordinate with their activities.
  • Determining work procedures, preparing work schedules and determining methods to expedite workflow.
  • Directing or getting involved in major or complicated crime scene examinations.
  • Checking whether the Forensic Unit is performing exact criminal identification by testing, using sophisticated computer systems, and laboratory examination of evidence.
  • Ensuring consistent application and interpretation of policies, rules, laws and procedures.
  • Ensuring professional and proper preparation of presentation and court displays of evidence.
  • Teaching and demonstrating to others about the preparation and presenting the expert testimony.
  • Researching, preparing and managing the forensic department annual budget; preparing budget based on standard guidelines; monitoring and analyzing revenues and expenditures.
  • Preparing or reviewing reports, correspondence, and many other documents.
  • Responding to requests for a variety of information generated by other agencies.
  • Working with some other departmental groups, other agencies, federal agencies.
  • Developing, analyzing, recommending and determining improvements in order to ensure continual operation and system efficiency.
  • Formulating, developing and assuring complete implementation of forensic unit goals and objectives.
  • Providing expert guidance, instructions, information to system users, staff and many others regarding forensic science.

Skills and Specifications

  • Deep understanding of the forensic science practices to include photographs, fingerprint, botany, entomology, chemistry, handling DNA evidence procedures, processing evidence by various chemical methods.
  • Able to supervise, train, evaluate, provide and direct technical assistance to technical and clerical staff.
  • Strong expert level working knowledge of all Forensic Investigation Unit aspects.
  • Modern effectual supervisory principles and practices.
  • Good knowledge of present business administration or operation practices and principles.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to operate various departmental equipment like cameras, microscopes, and others
  • Highly proficient in photography, processing film and latent fingerprint identification.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Able to develop and implement efficient policies, objectives and work procedures efficiently.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or related field is basic.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, forensic science, microbiology, biology, or a related applied science.
  • Degree in the field of Health is preferred.
