A pharmaceutical assistant is someone who works in an entry – level position in a hospital or retail pharmacy.
Duties and Responsibilities
- A pharmaceutical assistant has to assist in a variety of tasks in a pharmacy.
- In a hospital pharmacy, he has to fill prescriptions of medicines, liquids, compound creams, etc.
- In retail pharmacies, he has to count compound creams and pills.
- He has to directly report to a technician or pharmacist.
- He may have to update patient’s health records if he works in a hospital pharmacy.
- He has to handle the management of the inventory of medicines in the pharmacy he is working at.
- He may have to receive incoming shipments of medicines and handle all acorganizationing paperwork.
- He has to be responsible for restocking the medicines of the pharmacy.
- He has to operate the cash register of the pharmacy.
- He may also have to perform other odd jobs at the pharmacy as instructed by his supervisor.
Skills and Specifications
- A pharmaceutical assistant needs to have a high degree of accuracy in the performance of his duties.
- He needs to be a very detail – oriented person.
- He has to possess very good communication skills as he will have to communicate directly with clients.
- He should have a physically fit body that can withstand long hours of standing on one’s feet.
- He should be knowledgeable about technology and be able to do the data entry work of the pharmacy.
- He ought to possess a desire to serve.
- He should have the desire to follow the instructions provided by his supervisors.
Education and Qualifications
A pharmaceutical assistant ought to have at least a high school diploma. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is highly desirable. More than education, a working knowledge of medicines is significant.
