Investigative Assistant Job Description and Profile

Under general supervision, the job of the Investigative Assistant entails performing general office and field duties as able support to any criminal investigation activities as well as those that involves civil cases. The Investigative Assistant performs other related tasks and duties required of him.

Duties and Specifications

  • Creates, processes and serves a number of documents that are of legal nature such as subpoenas, legal motions, complaints and legal orders.
  • Efficiently utilizes CLETS terminal, mainframes, DMV records and other types of computerized systems meant to located people.
  • Requests, obtains and facilitates background checks, police reports, fingerprints, bookings and mug shots from related agencies.
  • Takes photographs of various crime scenes as well as transports existing evidence.
  • Locates and interviews existing and potential witnesses as well as victims.
  • Transports witnesses and victims to courts for appearances.
  • Provides ample information to victims and witnesses on transportation needs as well as court appearances.
  • Reviews backgrounds and criminal histories to effectively determine security issues of victims and witnesses.
  • Performs computerized data entry in the tracking system for updating of records on subpoena services.
  • Provides testimonies in court regarding legal actions done to locate people needed to be served.
  • Prepares statistical and written reports to be used in various investigations.

Skills and Specifications

  • Able to understand and apply related rules, regulations and laws.
  • Should know how to operate and use CLETS terminal and other types of relevant computerized systems for locating people and data.
  • Be able to establish effective and harmonious work relationships.
  • Should prepare complete and accurate records and reports.
  • Should know how to use photographic devices and equipment.
  • Be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in written form.

Education and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is basic.
  • Combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills and abilities.
  • Some units in college on law enforcement or criminal justice course work are desirable.
  • Possession of valid State Driver’s License (Class C) is required.
