Meat Cutter Job Profile and Description

The profession of a Meat Cutter requires a great deal of concentration and technique of cutting different types of meat and ensuring minimum wastage. This job demands a person to show his efficiency and expertise in using cutting knives and kitchen equipments and tools. A meat cutter is also responsible for quality maintenance and up keeping the standards of the store or the restaurant.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keeping track of the inventory, and ensuring the proper stacking and storage of meat products.
  • Ensuring that all the meat products are in compliance with the store standards.
  • Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness of the work areas and equipments that are used for cutting.
  • Appropriately cleaning, cutting, weighing and packing the products.
  • Determining a storage and shelf life of all meat products as per food and safety norms.
  • Ensuring neat and proper display of meat products in the store.
  • Understanding the product requirements of chefs in restaurants and customers in stores.
  • Reporting the procurement of sub-standard products or damages to the supervising manager.

Skills and Specifications

  • Knowledge of the techniques of cutting meat and using appropriate knives and equipments for the same.
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills for intermingling with customers and taking orders.
  • Must have the ability to use appropriate knives and equipments for cutting meat products.
  • Must have the ability to coordinate work functions with fellow workers.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school graduate or a GED equivalent from a certified institution.
  • Interest in meat cutting and storage related activities are preferred.
