A security architect is an individual who protects the IT software and systems of an organization from potential hackers and other technological security breaches.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The security architect is responsible for providing protection to the information technology (IT) systems of the organization he has been hired by.
- He has to review and study the different systems and technology present to find any loopholes that may jeopardize the security of the organization.
- He has to find and analyze ways in which the systems can get hacked.
- It is his duty to detect the weaknesses in the systems and find out ways in which to rectify them.
- He has to prepare and document computer policies for the organization to ensure that the staff has a set of guidelines to follow.
- He has to constantly be on guard to find out any abnormal activity that may occur and may be the reason for a computer invasion.
Skills and Responsibilities
- A security architect has to have excellent problem – solving skills.
- Very high analytical skills and an understanding of complex data are also important requisites to be successful in this profession.
- A security architect needs to possess the ability of thinking like a hacker. Doing so helps him gain an entry into the mind of a hacker and how he may strike.
- He has to be a very adaptable person because technology is constantly changing and with it the security requirements of an organization is changing too.
- He must be willing to work in front of a computer for long hours.
Education and Qualifications
Persons who want to become a security architect should at least have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A degree in computer information engineering or computer science is preferred.
