Fleet Mechanic Job Profile and Description

The job of a Fleet Mechanic is to perform the maintenance and routine service of vehicles. These mechanics are usually hired by vehicle service centers, garages, and by companies for their vehicle repairs. This job demands the person to use their expertise in repairing and refurbishing of all kinds of automobiles. Many businesses hold an on the job training before selecting such workers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completely checking vehicles and identifying any type of defects or losses as well as restoring the same.
  • Estimating time and cost of repairs
  • Interacting with customers and understanding the problems related to their vehicles
  • Attending the phone calls of customers and handling their queries and grievances.
  • Approving modification of parts and many other important services for the vehicles.
  • Placing orders for necessary additional parts and ensuring the reasonable procurement of the same.
  • Working in tandem with all automobile protection norms and also laws.
  • Efficiently coordinating duties with fellow workers and additional departments of the establishment.

Skills and Specifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to find malfunctions in diesel and petrol auto parts.
  • Good understanding of using all repair tools, equipments and testing gear.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree or, diploma in mechanical or automotive engineering or any other related field of study
  • Work experience of 2 – 3 years as a fleet or a fleet mechanic.
